some of the planning

Horror Game Trailer Planning

Brainstorming and Ideas

My favourite genre of gaming is the horror genre because I love the idea of gamers wanting to be cautious about their actions and decisions, hoping not to walk into the powerful enemy that they know can’t be overcome and will end with the player pausing the game from fear.

I play a lot of horror games in my spare time so I feel I have good ideas for a story and game mechanics to create the trailers, game article and game cover. I decided it would be fun and interesting to base the game on a zombie apocalypse because the trailers can easily have a good mixture of traditional slow tension building horror and the more modern horror that involves fast pace chase scenes.

After looking at and playing other horror games (e.g. Left 4 Dead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_Dead and Dead Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Island) I came up with this game idea. The game is going to focus on survival more than action as in my opinion it is the better path to creating the creepy, scary atmosphere for the player. There are going to be 3 main characters each with their own special ability which makes teamwork crucial for survival, each character will be controllable making the game 3 player cooperative for friends to play together. One character will be the leader who is specialised in defending of the hordes of undead, he will have the ability to protect his teammates by been able to push more infected off before getting bit and use a skill that can finish the enemy in one mighty blow with the right tools of course. The second character known as the supporter is weaker and won’t be able to push away half as many infected as the leader can, but he is still crucial to the team as he has the job of carrying weapons, supplies and key items players find in the game that can be used to support the other players. A unique skill the supporter has is crafting weapons, he can use items found in the game to craft all different kinds of melee weapons which the leader then uses for his mighty blow finisher. Another skill the supporter has is scavenging; he has a better chance of finding useful items then other characters when investigating areas. The Final character is the camera man, he is the reason the other two characters are here because his job is to film the events of the outbreak as evidence for the American government. The player will have to use the camera man’s camera and constantly film the world around them for the team’s overall score. The more infected people on film and more brutal the scene the bigger the score. The camera man has the useful ability of distraction; he can create noise by interacting with any object in reach and lure the infected to the group or away from the group to avoid getting swarmed.

The game’s look and setting will be similar to each of these images. A post-apocalyptic world swarming with infected who are just waiting for a slight noise to investigate and plenty of horrific gore waiting in every building. The game will be 1st person as it gives the best immersive experience for the player, nothing tenser and heart pounding on a game when you are getting chased and you can’t look behind you because the character will stop moving. The game outlast (image that is in night vision) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlast
uses a great 1st person feature with a camera, the player can press a button to bring up a hand held camera
